Our experts say the average length of time for them to finish the job is six to eight weeks — a bit longer if there’s a lot of custom work — but still much shorter than the anecdotal two years it takes homeowners to complete the task.
An average-sized basement is 800 to 1,000 square feet, and costs for finishing will vary depending on where you live and the level of customizing.
Kaitlyn Tranmer, office manager of Better Built Basements in Berlin, Connecticut, says they’ve worked on basements that ranged in price from $15,000 to $100,000 to finish, while Baker says his prices start around $26 to $30 a square foot. Hannah says in Colorado, $35 a square foot is normal pricing to finish a basement that includes a bedroom and bathroom.
